Parents Page

Hey parents, aren’t you excited to have a page devoted especially to you? Seeing as how you are the most important influence that your child has, we felt that it was only fitting. We also want to be able to provide you with some resources to help you engage with your kids and with what we are doing in High Octane. We want to be a resource for you. On this page you will find our Core Beliefs/Teachings, insights into helping your teen get and stay engaged in church, and contact information for our High Octane Leadership Staff. There is also a section of general guidelines and a printable copy of our Medical/Liability release form (for trips and stuff).

The Student Ministry of The Church @ Bradford Road exists in order to help students fulfill the following key passages of Scripture:

Our Core Teaching

The Great Commandment
"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all your mind.' This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself."
Matthew 22:37-40

The Great Commission
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

These two passages of scripture form the basis of what we were created for; (1) Loving God and (2) Sharing that love with others. Everything that we do, say and teach flows from the heart of these simple instructions.

There are seven principles that we believe will guide us into a deeper and better relationship and understanding of Jesus Christ and our relationship with Him. These principles are guideposts along the journey that is our Christian walk.

Authentic Faith: God can be trusted. He will always do all that he has promised to do.
Moral Boundaries: Purity leads the way to intimacy.
Healthy Friendships: Our friends determine the direction and quality of our lives.
Wise Choices: I need to walk wisely in order to get to where I want to go.
Ultimate Authority: Maximum freedom comes under God's authority.
Spiritual Disciplines: If we could see as God sees, we would do as God does.
Others First: I need to place others needs in front of mine.

10 (+1) Tips for Getting Your Student Connected:

  1. Make the church a priority in your family schedule. (If your student doesn't see YOU making church a priority they are less likely to make it a priority of their own.)

  2. Make attendance a habit for your student. (Bringing them consistently will help them develop a good habit of being involved AND it will make connecting to everyone else a little easier. There will be no question about whether or not they are going.)

  3. Serve as a volunteer (not necessarily in Student Ministry. Showing them you are willing to not just drop them off and leave gives them more desire to want to not just go to Church but to participate in community.

  4. Commit to attend a specific Sunday service (We encourage parents and Sr. High Students to “Serve One-Worship One and our Jr. High Students to be in Sunday ReGroup 1st service. We encourage our Jr. High Students to choose ReGroup 1st service over the adult worship)

  5. Take advantage of special events throughout the year. (The reason we have events in the first place is for CONNECTION! Secondary reasons are to provide opportunities for students to have some 'good, clean, fun'. The foundational reason is the get them into a closer relationship with Jesus! The more events your students go to, the more likely they are to connect with someone they can relate to, which provides them a friend to DO LIFE with! Very strategic I know.)

  6. Utilize the resources of the Student Ministry Staff. (It's not only what we do, it's not only our job, and IT’S WHAT WE'RE MADE FOR! It's the way God wired us up! Take full advantage of that. We are a resource for you. We surely don't have all the answers, but we want to be a partner with you in the lives of your teenager.)

  7. Monitor the group your student runs with. (We teach a simple principle in High Octane; Our friends determine the direction and quality of our lives. Know the people who have influence over your child’s heart and mind if you want to really know them.)

  8. Take back control of the family. (The trend of 'students running the household' is not a healthy one. God set us as parents in that role for a reason. It is a huge responsibility that we have and a vital one. That's all I'll say about that. I might get myself in some trouble on this one! Ha-ha, seriously.)

  9. Come by anytime and observe. (You're always welcome to come see what we do so you can be educated about what your student is to expect when they come. Your student may be freaked out that you come and check it out but nevertheless you will learn very quickly what we are about and how we do things!)

  10. Ask your student what they learned at Fuel, Ignition, and ReGroup. (Engaging in conversation about our gatherings shows your student you're interested in their world. It shows them that you have a concern for what's going on in their space. This is crucial not just to get them connected to our ministry but to keep them connected TO YOU as the parent.)

(+1) Stay informed. (Check for new info via Facebook, the web page and our monthly student ministry newsletter.

General Rules/Guidelines/Expectations
* Mutual Respect: Everyone needs to be respectful of others. This means that we need to listen when others are talking, not creating distractions during teaching/worship times and to
